AMUSEMENTS.
EVERYBODY’S. — M. 4 ETON—WE ONES DA Y. /.LICE BRADY. A woman fearful of becoming a mother is the central figure of “Maternity,” the World Film Drama screening at Everybody’s on Wednesday evening. 3 Leo Brady is exquisite as the heroine, and her portrovai of the young wife with a life problem, of her own to solve, is verv compromising. The story is delicately handled, and the problem which it*faces is treated .with due respect. The photography calls for special remark. It is brilliant, particularly in the wonderful night scene where the hospital is burnt, filmed at dead of night and full of vivid and realistic ashes. Little Madge Evans, as the child who is rescued, is charmingly natural-,- and earns a distinction all for herself. The support is strong, David Powell who earned such praise as Dick Freneau of Gloria’s Romance, and also in The Price She Paid, is the hero, and his work will be a revelation of manly grace and quiet strength. It is a unique idea in treatment of a theme of this kind to m«ko the mother’s maternal love awaken through her rescue of another woman’s child from deadly peril. Alice Brady’s acting in this position of trial, and her portrayal of the awakening of her soul, is one of the great artistic achievements on the screen.
