From Our Own Correspondent. On Wednesday last the ladies of Pukeokahu had charge of the Red

Cross Shop and the takings for the day amounted to £Bl 10s. The shop was under the control of the Bennett’s Siding people on Saturday, when £4l 7s 7cl was netted as a result of the work of the suburbanites.

At tho last meeting of the Wanganui Education Board it was decided to offer £BS for the Turaugurere school building: On Thursday-next “Our Day. - ’ Taihape shopkeepers will close at 11.80 a.m., and on Monday, 23nd, Labour Day 1 a full holiday will ha observed.

The Taihape 1 Tenuis Club bold its annual mooting on Wednesday night, there being a good attendance. Twenty-seven new members were elected. The balance sheet showed, the receipts for the year as £34 Os (>d, and the expenditure £l7 j.4s 4d. The bank overdraft was re'duced by £lo (is 2d during the season. Parsons and L. H. B. De Latour; committee, Mesdames Dugley, O'Callaghan, Miss Kennedy, Messrs Wilson, Kerchberg and Dugley. ; • secretary and treasurer, Mr W. J. Munro. The fixing of a date to officially open the season was left to Messrs Munro and O'Callaghan. By a concert held at Taoroa during last w,eek. the Red Cross Funds were supplemented by £5. The Rev. Tal Trigge, of Melbourne, opened a Mission at the local Methodist Church on Sunday morning, which will continue, rightup to Saturday evening next. Thw reverend’ gentleman held a patriotic service at the Three Stars Hall daring Sunday afternoon, the address being entitled "The Church and the War. - ’ He was greeted by a large audience.
