SOCIAL HYCIENE BILL.

MEDICAL ASSOCIATION’S PROTEST. Per Press Association. Christchurch, Oct. 13. The Canterbury division of the British Medical Association passed the following resoluti on;— ‘ ‘ That this division urges the Council of the Medical Association protests against such an important matter as the Social Hygiene Bill being hurried through Parliament before the people have had time to consider it. This meeting considers the Bill as drawn up is pandering to the prurient propensities of the public; also that without compulsory and confidential notification the Bill will be of no avail; futher that the Public Heath Department and the medical profession, instead of a Lay Board, should have control of these diseases.” CHRISTCHURCH OBJECTORS. CHRISTCHURCH, Yesterday. A largely attended mooting of women to-day carried a resolution protesting against the attempt to re enact the C.D. Act under the guise of the Social Hygiene Bill. Dr. Blackmore, who was one of the chief speakers, in the course of his condemnation of the Bill, remarked that no other country in the world suffered so much from hasty and ill-con-sidered legislation as New Zealand.

A further resolution was carried to the effect that every facility should be given for free and voluntary treatment of sufferers from venereal disease and urging the establishment of farm colonies for persons suffering from such disease. The meeting was also in favour of raising the age of consent, the employment of women police, and instruction in moral education.
