TAIHAPE NOTES.

From OnrOwn Correspond ent. At the monthly meeting of th» Taihape School Committee tbaHeadmaster reportedjthat the average attendance. in the primary classes was 303 out cf a roll number of 340. At Wimiata the average attendance is 11 out of a roll number of 14. A cheque for £3O for capitatiou and another for £lO as a subsidy towards the cost of asphalting the school grounds, were received from the Education Board. The social and dance held ak Moawnaugo on Thursday night last resulted in £6j being raised for Ked* Cross purposes. A meeting of the general committee of the Taihape Patriotic Society was held on Monday night*, when 20 members were present. A letter was received from the Advisory Board with reference to tha suggestion that money should bs raised to provide entertainment fo»New -Zealand Soldiers on fnrlough ia England from France, and the Board stated that the contribntlottdne by this district was £lO. Tee committee men present undertook' to collect £1 each to fulfill this obligation During the previous mooch financial assistance was granted to the wives of two mea away at the front. Two returned men received grants for clothing and two others were give» their railway fares and small sums m cash. The treasurer reported that he ’: d received £5 8s 9d, tha amount coilooted at the service Intercession on Snnday last. At the inquest on John Morris* which was terminated on Wednesday morning, the Coroner, Mr J. Aldridge, returned the following: verdict; —“The deceased, John Morris died from a clot of hlood In the heart, originating from tbs fractnre of a rib, probably occnrrinit whilst in a snuggle with Willianr Thomas Ashton, but there was not sufficient evidence to say how thfe fracture came about.’’
