THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS.

BARRED TO GERMANS

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Reuter.

London, Oct. 20. In the House of Commons, on the second reading ot tbe Rhodes Estate Bill, providing for the disestablishment of German scholarships, Mr J. King moved rejection, criticising the trustees’ methoas of carrying out the object in view. He admitted that reversion to pre-war conditions was impossible.

Mr Yate suggested tht the trustees be invited to consider the allocation to India of one of the proposed forfeited scholarships. Mr Mackinder, on behalf of the promoters of the measure, said the House would agree that a long time would elapse before Germans would again be acceptable at Oxford. Mr King withdrew his opposition and the Bill was read a second time.
