HEAVY SHELLING OH THE ANCRE. ENEMY ATTACKS REPULSED.
GERMAN TRENCHES RAIDED. Received Oct. 17, 11.15 a.m. London, Oct. 16. Sir Douglas Haig reports heavy enemy shelling south of the Ancre. Wo' repulsed with heavy losses strong enemy attacks on the Schwaben Redoubt, preceded by artillery and rtamemverfers. We raided trenches in the Ypres, St. Eioi and Ploegsteeit areas.
