OVERSEER’S REPORT,

Makiuo Riding.—The gravelling on Makino road is now finished, and I have also attended to Forlong’s road. The footbridge that Mr Palmer and others require on Forlong’s road will requre three spans. To erect a light truss heart of rimu on ironbark piles with the concrete pier, and a 2ft 6iu roadway, will cost about £lB3. The site is not a good one, and when the river is in flood this bridge would be very little good. 1 have run the grader along parts of Makino road, also Mackay’s line. The roller is handling the grader splendidly, and if the weather does net get too dry should get through all main roads that require grading. The roads in this riding are now in good repair. Rangitawa Riding.—The tarring and sanding of footpaths and Post Office front at Halcomhe is now finished. As regards Mr Krugber’s request for old bridge timber to repair footbridge, there is no suitable timber on baud at present. As the Rangitawa bnge on Tokoraugi road will want replacing by a concrete one at an early date there should be some timber available from this old bridge to replace the footbridge Mr Krngher requires. Ranmauga Riding.—The grader is now at work in this riding, and 1 intend to run it along all mam roads. I have had to leave work on hand at Arapata for a time, as the surfaceman is required with grader, but will finish this work plater. I could not get a man to go up to assist roadman at Arapata, hence the deh y 7: Taonui Riding.—The gpipes have now come to band for drain at Bunny thorps, and I will attend to this work as soon as possible. I nave had some gravel put on Forlong’s. Spur, and Aorangi roads to repair weak places. The planting of willows has been attended to at Menzies’ Bridge, and a water channel has been cut, Hiwinui Riding.—The roadman has been attending to 'Watershed road, also renewing some pipe culverts during the month. The roads in this riding are at present in good repair. Otangaki Riding.—The AsbhurstPohangina road, also PalruerstonNapier road, has been gravelled where there were weak places. These roads are uow m good order. I have two men overhauling the Gorge Bridge, which is rather a difficult undertaking.| There are a great number of holts wit! out nuts and washers, which I have replaced. The decking planks also required a great number of spikes as all screwing up has to be done on staging. It has been rather a slow .iob, hut this work is now well in hand. OTHER BUSINESS.

It was resolved that all mail boxes be erected on tbe outside of the water tables wit bin the county, so as not to impede the clearing of water tables by the road grader. That the Railway Department be asked to pot the railway crossing at Halcombe in better repair. Applications for alteratons rate roll were approvedjjasj follows: Fanny Tremoman to E, G. Roberts, Forloug and Suisted to M. Tierney, 31 Tierney to Forlong and Suieted.
