ANGLO-FRENCH ADVANCE.

FIGHTING AT IE TRANSLOY.

DESPERATELY DEFENDED BY ENEMY.

Paris, Oct. 13

Semi official.—The British yesterday made more sex-ions progress than the direction of their commnnique indicates, but the Allies are anxious only to annnounce confirmed results. Moreover, the battle still continues.

The Times’correspondent at headquarters says that without giving the enemy rest, we struck again after consolidating, still further driving the Germans hack on the right from Eancourt Le Abbeye to Warlencourt [Road, on a four mile front.

The French, co-operating beyond Les Boeufs, we advanced within live hundred yards of Le Transloy Cemetery, gaining a thousand yards and forming here a new north-west-erly zigzag line to Flers-Ligny-Thil-loy Road, where fighting is still proceeding.

The artillery and aeroplanes were again magnificent, the latter continually circling the enemy’s lines and ignoring air guns constant fusilading. Tne Allied operation commenced on Thursday resulted in progress north-west of Gueudecoxxrt, in the direction of Bapaums. Le Transloy is in a precarious position. It has been incessantly bombarded for ten days. The position has been aggravated by this advance. It is freported that the British already occupy th£ outskirts of Le Transloy, which is being defended most desperate!}-. Its tall will compel the enemy to abandon the line of heights between Guedecourt (Beanlencourt?) and Morval.
