HUNTERVILLE NOTES

(From Onr Own Correspondent). It will be learned with regret that Mr Henry Addenbrooke, of On go Road, has just lost his brother, Mr Hubert J. Addenbrooke, of Manga* mahu. The deepest sympathy will he extended to Mr Addenbrooke and family in their bereavement. 5 There was a large and representative gathering at the farewell social . tendered to Private E. Meads, at Silverhope, on Friday evening. The hall looked particularly picturesque with the greenery, and the floor was in good order. There were many dances, and numerous musical ‘items were submitted, Mrs Grey being the first on the programme with her song ‘‘Come Sing to Me.” Mr Alex. Reid then sang ‘‘lt’s Just Like Being at Home,” which was well received. The next item on the progamme was tne Shanntrubhas, danced by the Misses Lizzie and Molly Reid. These popular dancers received a great reception, and, in response to a recall danced the Highland Flng." Mr Crichton tnen sang “Thora,” and Master Frank Reid danced the Sword Danqg,. for which he had a recall. Miss Maggie Henderson, who was in excellent voice, sang ‘‘The Island of Dreams,” and for an encore‘‘The Sunshine of your Smile.” On be half of the Silverbope residents, Mr McDonald presented Private Meads witb a token of esteem. He also made a presentation cn behalf of the Rata Patriotic Committee, In re spouse Private Meads stated that he vi as only doing hla duty, and what he considered to be the duty of all physically fit single men in the British Empire. (Applause). The audience then rose en masse and sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” after which three heart}’ cheers were given for the guest of honor, and three cheers for the soldiers about to depart,, and those wno had returned wounded. After a dainty supper had been partaken of the dancing was continued until the small hours of the rnorr.ing. Miss Lizzie Reid again obliged witb the Sailor’s Hornpipe, and extra dances were played by Miss Meads and Mr E. J. Cameron. No small portion of the success of the evening was duo to the dance music, which was,, as usual, so capably plaved by Miss O’iSbaunassy, and the accompaniments played by Mias Rachel Meads.

The sum of £23 3s 4d was taken at the Red Cross Shop on Tuesday last by Mrs Middleton, the Misses Campbell K. Burgess, Earle and B. TTowie.
