INCOME TAX TO BE INTRODUCED.

M. Rihot, interviewed, [said we have rietemined to introduce an income tax. We tbinfc that by the elasticity of this “form of taxation we shall be able to meet-a good part of oun liabilities, but undue haste in : taxation will only scare the country. He [stated that he had arranged with Mr Asquith and Mr McKenna that the Allies will pool their gold in order to render the collective financial position more solid and enable England to maintain the gold the scope of its credit with the United States. The Bank of France is placing many millions sterling at the disposal of the British Treasury, the Treasury opening a credit in sterling in favour of France in London, and the gold will be returned to the coffers of the Bank of France alter the war.

RAILWAYMAN'S DEMANDS.

The South Wales railwaymen unanimously decided that unless a 10s advance is conceded they will strike at midnight on the 17th. They demand that the Government must give a definite guarantee for the control of the food supply and regulate prices.
