AUCKLAND CARNIVAL SENSATION.
WRIT SERVED ON SECRETARY. Per Pregs Association. Auckland, Nov. 27. A sensation was caused in Carnival circles by the issue of a summons under the Gaming Act, which was served on the Secretary. The Exeentive stated that it was in connection with the Art Union promoted by the Licensed Victuallers’ Committee, which originally was based cii the result of the Auckland Cup. The first prize was advertised as a work of art, a painting valued at £IOOO, and other paintings were offered as px'izes to the second and third horses, and all starters. The Committee guaranteed the value of the paintings and guaranteed ro purchase them from dissatisfied winners.
