The committee has decided to allocate £710,000 of Australia Day Funds to the relief of the wounded. It is stated that the failure to do this has already seriously affected the success of other patriotic movements, particularly Allies Day. In the Assembly Mr Waddell gave notice of a resolution advocating the abolition of all spirits, which would only be allowed to he sold by Government agents, The sales of wines and beers would be allowed to continue. Mr Hall stated that the Government importation of wheat last year was 255,666 quarters which cost £724,608. The amount sold was 198,552 quarters, the price being 7s to 7s 6cl. Melbourne, Oct. 27. In the Ministerial re-election Mr Archibald Spence was thrown out of office owing to the stand he recently made against the unions.
