TAIHAPE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The Taihape vital statistics for the month ending November 30th are as follows;—Births 15, deaths 5, marriages 3. The figares for the corresponding period of last year were 14, 2 and 3. The Borough Council’s employees were busily employed on Sundays last cleaning out the local dam. A striking feature during the work was the number of trout brought to view in the stretch below the dam, which was dry except for a few pools, during part of the operations. The unusual long spell of dry weather experienced in the Taihape district has been varied by muchneeded rain. Although the hack country hereabouts parches up-as quickly, as some other parts of the Dominion, still fefed was getting very short and pastures generally showed undoubted evidences of water shortage. Lady Stout is giving another address on prohibition in Taihape on Thursday night. Mr G. Andrews, of Ashburton, will give an address of a similar character during the week. The first match in the Bowling Oluh’b newly- incepted “Spurs” competition was played on Saturday afternoon, the winning team— Messrs McLaughlau, Train, Thurston and Garrett—scoring 29 points to their opponent’s 8. As the result of an invitation, three rinks from the local club will visit Mangaweka on Thursday afternoon. An eight year old hoy, Albert White, of Ohakune East, met with painful Injuries on Saturday, losing three fingers and a thumb as the result of a blasting accident. He is receiving attention at the local hospital. The amount subscribed' towards patriotic funds has now reached the satisfactory total of £lO3l 6s 6d, being made up as follows: Defence Fund, £7Bl Is lid; Local Relief Fund, £l6O 3s lid; Belgian Relief Fund, £7O 18s 2d; British, Irish and Belgian Fund, £l9 2s 6d.
