CAPSIZING OF A SURF BOAT.

THREE MEN DROWNED. Per Press Association. Napier, Nov. 28. Whilst the Kahn was engaged lightering wool at Te Awatie this morning a surf .boat capsized and three men were drowned. There are no details. Later. The surf boat belonging to the steamer Kahu was returning to the vessel with a loads of wool from Riddiford’s Station, when the engine broke down and> the anchor was dropped. . The boat was swamped in the' heavy sea, aneb three out of four men in her were drowned, namely, W.. Leers, first mate aged 30, married afe Wellington three months ago, and O’Brien and Patterson, able seamen.. The fourth man was rescued by the Kanu’s life boat, which was- in charge of Wilson, second mate. The bodies have not been recovered. The Ripple has been ordered from Akitio to proceed to the scene oS the disaster.
