CERTIFICATED ENGINE-DRIVERS.

A COMPLAINT PROM DAIRY FACTOR MANAGERS.

A deputation of managers of dairy factories in the Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay, Northern Wairarapa, and Rangitikei waited on the Hon. Mr Fisher this morning in connection with a clause in the Inspection cf Machinery Act requiring all drivers of engines being certificated in charge Mr C. R. Beattie, as /spokesman, pointed out that the enforcement would mean the appointment of certificated engine-drivers, and would mean an extra cost of £3 5s per week to the factories. The Minister said when the clause was framed it was never thought that Dairy Companies would he affected. It was necessary in sawmills and flaxmills. When be got back to, Wellington he would set the Department working to see if it could not distinguish between machinery dangerous to human life and harmless machinery. He would do his best to meet the complaint.
