Waymond’s timber yard and saw mills, at Newstead. A large quantity of valuable machinery and over a million and a quarter feet of pine, and a quantity of hardwood were destroyed. ' The origin of the fire is unknown. The fire burned fiercely for several hours. The damage amounts to nearly £30,000 The insurances amount .to £7OOO. Seventy men are rendered idle. The firemen bad difficulty in preventing the fire from spreading to the large gasometer of the Brisbane Gas Company.
