LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Assooiat on, Wellington, August 38. The Council met at 3.30. The Imprest Supply Bill allocating £839,300 as supply, was introduced and passed all stages. The Roman Catholic Archbishop Empowering Bill (the Hon. Johnston) was read a second time. In reply to the Hon. Hardy, the Hon. Bell said that the eight hours system was in force in most hospitals. Proposals for increasing the pay of nurses were under consideration, and a scheme of superannuation was also under consideration, but this was a matter of some difficulty. Eraser said in reply to a question that the Public Works Estimates could not be completed for a month or six weeks. It was proposed to renew the usual grant for roads and bridges. The Christchurch Electoral Supply Bill (Mr Davey), the Dunedin District Drainage'and Sewerage Acts Amendment Bill (the Hon Allen), and the Borough of Mornington Tramways Act Amendment Bill (the Hon Statham), were read a third time and passed The Wellington City Empowering Amendment Bill (Hon Hardman) was read a second time, and the House adjourned at 5.30 until 3.30 to-morrow.
