Twelve senior students from Otago medical school went north this morning to assist in the smallpox outbreak at Auckland Whangarei, August 28

Dr East visited Wharanaki yesterday where he previously attended 40 patients for smallpox He was greatly shocked to find that nearly half the sufferers had disappeared from the settlement and gone across Opuawhanga river t,6 Wairaki The doctor views the circumstances with alarm as they are still infectious. They bad received definite instructions not to leave the settlement. The doctor thinks sufferers are scattered all over the country. Auckland, August 28.

Three additional cases of the disease were discovered in the city today, while late in the afternoon.a case was reported from Orakei. The three city cases were all European males, and were found respectively in Upper Queen Street, contacts from the case discovered on Thursday, in Turner Street, and in Vincent Street. The Orakei ouse was a native woman who will he brought up to the isolation hospital as soon as possible. Reports from the country districts are very satisfactory. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn stated that Parawera was now clear, while Otorohanga patients had been discharged. The northern end of Waikato district is also stated to bo clean, while no more oases had been discovered at Tanpiri. The hospital committee at Morriusvllle lias now been broken up.
