MARTON GUN CLUB.

The above Club held a sweepstake and a competition for a trophy presented by Messrs Lewis and Cameron yesterday afternoon. A dozen took part in the sweepstake, which included a number of novices. S. J. Gibbons, O. Beard, and P. Beard tied with five clays each in the first sweepstake. Fifteen fired for _ the trophy and sweepstake combined, which resulted in P. Beard, O. E. Gibbons and O. Wells hitting an equal number of clays. In the fireoff O. E. Gibbons came first and P. Beard second The shooting on the Whole was bad, but the interest evinced by the young members should help the Club along. Bar W. J, Aynsley has succeeded in obtaining twenty new members since the last meeting, and although not a champion shot he spends a considerable amount of time in encouraging the new members. Mr S. J. _ Gibbons acted as handicapper and judge A meeting of .the Marton Gun Club was held last night Jn Mr Aynsley’s rooms, when there was a fair attendance of members. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr E. Newman, M.P. ; president, Mr W. T. Galpin; vicepresidents, Dr. Crawford and Messrs B Lloyd, G. T Avery, J. Hannan and S. J. Gibbons; committee, Messrs W. J. Aynsley, H. APrebble, C. Gibbons. P. Beard, F Brown, S J Gibbons and F Hatherly It was decided to bold two shoots a month, one on a Wednesday, and one on a Saturday. A deputation consisting of Messrs S. J. Gibbons, O, Gibbons, H. A, Prebble, and F. Brown was appointed to wait on Che Marton Jockey Club re shooting on the racecourse. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Mr Aynsley for donation of a trap, and Messrs J Hannan, S J Gibbons and Lewis and Cameron for donation of trophies.
