Lady Kanfurly has suffered bereavement through the sudden death of her father, James Alfred Caulfield, 0.8., Viscount Oharlemont, and Baron Caulfield, of Oharlemont, in Ireland. While dressing for dinner at his residence, Drumcairne, Stewartstown, Conntv Tyrone, he had a stroke and died very soon afterwards, at the age of 83. The heir to the viscounty is the late peer’s nephew, Mr James Edward Caulfield, who was born in 1880. A London correspondent writes:— Rightly or wrongly, the salving of the Indrabarah from the Rangitikei coast is ascribed here to the powerful ground tackle which was said to have been sent to New Zealand recently to deal with the vessel. The marine insurance writer to the Telegraph suggests that the tackle should be kept in the Dominion for the benefit of the underwriters in future strancliugs. There has been a good deal of comment in shipping quarters here about the want of good salving tackle in the Dominion. The farewell dinner at Newcastle arranged in honour of Mr E. H. Hiley, the new railway manager for New Zea’aud, by the officers of the North-eastern Railway, was presided over by Mr H A. Watson. It was a very representative gathering. Mr Watson proposed the health of their guest, Mr Hiley, in reply, spoke of the kindness he had always received on ;the North-eastern Railway, and stated that although he was looking forward to the very interesting work which lay before him, it would be a decided wrench to place himself at such a distance from all his old colleagues. Messrs E. Lloyd and Co. commence their first new season’s display of new novelties this week. Large shipments are now arriving weekly from their London buyers. A cordial invitation is extended to the residents of this district to inspect their latest fashions. * GAVE ALL A FAIR TRIAL. “For years I suffered from bronchitis although I tried many patent medicines and doctors prescriptions, giving all a fair, trial, ” writes Mrs Annie Lennon, Bridge Road, Drummoyne, N.B. W “Then I tried Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy and from the first dose got relief and kept on getting better.
