LABOUR TROUBLES.

Per Press Association,

Greymouth, August 18. A strike occurred at Blackball Mine to-day aud 350 to 400 men are out in consequence of the management’s refusal to discontinue the dog watch, known as the night shift from 10 p.m. to6a.m. Both sides are reticent as regards details. It is understood the Miners’ Union refused as a body to work unless the dog watch shift is abolised with the result that the management accepted the request as an ultimatum. All work is at a standstill to-day. The Blackball Company’s steamer Ngahere left th-day loaded for Wellington. The Ngatoro’s and Petone’s movements are now uncertain.
