HARRY THAW ESCAPES.

DASHES OFF IN MOTOR CAR. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. New York, August 17. Harry K. Thaw, who shot Stanford White on June 25th, 1906, escaped from the hospital for the criminal insane at Matteawau early this morning. He darted through an open door to a standing automobile and dashed for the Connecticut boundary. Five confederates manned the oar. The police have a number of names registered in 'a hotel The hospital authorities believe the fugitive made for Long Island shore, where a yacht was waiting to convey him to Europe. The superintendent of the asylum, whom Thaw rushed past, is arrested. Other arrests are expected.

Five hundred dollars reward is offered. Escape is rendered possible through a declaration that a prisoner. unless, legally liberated, would not escape getting extra privileges. Uniformed police guard the hotel where Mrs Thaw is staying in New York, owing to.her fear of her huehand’s threats. .
