SOUTHERN GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Christchurch, May 6. There is a good demand for short berried wheat, especially pearl, which is much firmer in price. Tuscan is dull of sale. For prime line* of pearl 3s 9d to 3s lOd is now being offered at country stations, hunters being worth 3s to 3s 7;k>d. For Tuscan sales are difficult to effect at 5s 6d, some buyers only offering 8s 3Xd. There is very little hunters and pearl offering. Hence the firmer prices. . g The market for oats is_ very quiet, and merchants are finding a difficulty in effecting sales of their stocks. On the other hand growers are holding firmly, and decline to accept prices below what they have lately been receiving. “A” grade | Gartons are worth np to 2a 3d, ±3 | grade and other varieties of oats up | to 3a at country stations, j Oatsheaf chaff is firm at 63s 6d I and 65s at country stations, f Potatoes are offering freely, as I growers must now either Bell or pit I their crops.
