The monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present: Ore. Hugh Burrell (chairman), J. H. Vincent, J. Murphy, ,”J. L. MacDonald, O. MoElroy, and W. G. Pearce. Correspondence was read — Prom M. Kew and others, Halcombe, objecting to the Town Board office beingjfplaced on the balancesheet of the merged Town Board, and'snggesting that as the building was erected by subscriptions it should be placed in the hands of Trustees, and placed at disposal of those requiring its use. —Or. MacDonald was empowered to call a meeting and act. Prom Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking for total valuation of Oroua County required for purpose of estimates.— To be supplied. Piona Valuer-General, stating that he had sent to Treasury a voucher for payment of r '£Bsl 16s 3d, advance account of subsidy due for year 1 912- 3, and from Treasury stating that cheque for amount had been remitted to credit of Council’s account with the Bank of New Zealand Talso acknowledging redeipt of £993 18s 3d loans. P cm Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, re Manawatu Court at Auckland Exhibition, stating that a meeting will be held at Borough Council Chambers, Palmerston, to | consider matter and asking Council | to appoint representative. Prcm A. Campbell, Council’s attention to drain’ on Nannested’s road, and asking that drain bejdeepeaed and graded from railway land of road for about thirty chains.

Jeliyman, asking that pound paddock at Colyton belfenced. —Left to Or. Pearce. Prom Audit Office, r forwarding balance-sheet of Halcombe Town Board for period ended 7th December, 1912, certified. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Engineer, Mr R. L. Harding, reported for February as follows Mangaone Riding. Contractor will be making at gravelling Peildlng-Halcombe road next week. Raugitawa Riding.—Contract for supply of gravel in this Riding has been commenced. An old wooden culvert at Halcombe has been replaced with 2ft. concreteTpipes. Raumanga Riding.—Contract for supply of gravel, 700 yards, on Wilson’s Line has been completed, and a start has been made at gravelling Tokorangi road. One cutting on this road has-been regraded and widened, and another bad point out back :• about 6 feet. Contract for formation of Arapata road is proceeding satisfactorily. The bulk of formation work on sections 2 and 8 has been finished, as has also reinforced concrete bridge over Waituna stream. An old wooden culvert, on Wfison’s Line will require to be replaced with 2ft. concrete pipes. Makino Riding.—The contract for grav-filing the various roads in this Riding has been commenced. I have made arrangements to open a new gravel pit on Mr Turnbull’s property, and should it turn out satisfactory it would make a good permanent pit for the upper part of Makino Road. Taonui Riding.—Two hills on Stoney Creek road have been regraded, but still gravelling. The contractor has commenced gravelling the roads about Colyton and a start will be made on the Bunnythorpe-Feilding road on Monday'next. Hiwinui Riding.—Not much work has been dona in this Riding, and if tenders are not forthcoming for the various gravelling contracts, , some of tke most urgent work should be doneSby day labour. | on Siberia roads is nearing completion. Thejpnaiu and side roads have been completed with the exception of two culverts, and on Gardiner’s road the cutting at the top end and gravelling along the flat still has to be completed. Otangaki Riding.—A start has been made at forming a summer track along the Pohangina road, and I have put on two extra men to clean out drains, etc. TREASURER’S REPORT.

The treasurer, W. G. Pearce, reported Amount of general rates levied 1911-12, dr. £4845 8s 9d, amount collected February 28th, 115, dr. £4777 17s; amount outstanding February 28th, 1915, cr. £67 _lls 9d. Amount of general rates levied, 1912-18, dr. £4868 2s sd; amount collected February 28th, 1918, dr. £4582 4s 9d; amount outstanding February 28th, 1913, cr. £3BO 17s Bd. Bank j; balances. —General account dr. £l5O, interest account cr. £B9 15s fld, Siberia loan £Bl 18s lid, Arapata loan £1763 18s Bd, It was resolved — That Mr. Hugh Burrell be granted permission to gravel his road from Kimbolton road to his gateway subject to aporoval of Engineer. That Engineer be instructed to have the drain on Nannestad’s road cleaned out as requested by Mr Campbell, also that the drain on Taonui road be cleaned ont from the stream north as far as necessary. That manuka scrub on roadside approohing Mr A. Grantham’s residence, Halcombe, be cut down. That road approaching Mr L. Wishnowski’s residence,* Halcombe, be metalled where necessary. That Engineer visit Pearce Street, Halcombe, and report on advisability or otherwise of placing a fence with gate across as requested by Mr W. A, Wilson. That Engineer bo authorised to proceed with necessary work in Halcombe township as agreed upon by himself and councillor for Riding. That the accepting "of tenders for metal in Otangaki Riding bo left ■with Or. Vincent and tho Engineer. That a summer track for stock bo formed in Peiiding-Haicombe road, the cost to be apportioned between Mangaone, Rangitawu and Runmanga Ridings, the last named subject to Or. Morrison’s approval. That Engineer proceed with formation of a summer track along Kimbolton road. That for purpose of completing Siberia road an additional 10 per centum on loan be applied Tor.
