THE GROWTH OF FEILDING.

MESSRS A. H. ATKINSON & CO. ’S NEW PREMISES. There is just nearing completion in Feilding a fine brick structure which Messrs A. H. Atkinson? and 00., Ltd., are erecting on the site of their old premises which were destroyed by fire some eight months ago. The new structure has been appropriately called “The Phoenix Buildings, ’’. and a well executed reputation of the mythical bird rising from the flames has been placed on the parapet. There is a frontage of 60 feet to Eimbolton Road, and an elevation of 37 feet. The upper portion is rough cast' in cement, and the ground floor frontage is finished with green glazed tiles, the supporting pillars well set and marked, the general effect being very pleasing. Niue offices occupy the front portion of the ground floor, and three of these are being used by the firm in connection with their insurance, auctioneering, and land and estate business. A seven-foot wide corridor leads through to the auction and grain and seed room, which measures 57 by 65 feet, and is lofty, well-lighted and ventilated. This room is probably the finest of its kind outside the four centres. A large and varied display is here made of all descriptions of grass seeds, clovers, etc., and farm implements of P. and D. Duncan manufacture. . The perfect lighting enables the public to make adequate inspection, and germination tests of seeds are being carried on in the room.

Dental rooms have -been specially built on the first-floor for Mr O. Y. New ton-Broad, who is well equipped with the latest in dental appliances. The two surgeries and’ work room have direct overhead lighting. The walls and ceilings are lined with what is known as “poilite” (abestos) panelling, and the doors are of well marked Oregon pine. The structure is a decided acquisition to the town buildings, and good business should follow the enterprise shown by the firm.
