COUNTRY RACING CLUBS.

The claims of the country racing clubs to have restored to them totalisator permits was brought under the notice of Mr Massey and the Hon. Bell by a deputation from the Country Club’s Racing Conference this morning. Mr Bruce, Thames, chairman of the Conference. said that for over two years he and his colleagues have been engaged in a battle to get back the number of days taken away from them two years ago as the result of what they believed to be hysterical legislation. He knew the matter was difficult to handle. It is the intent’on of the Conference to promote a Bill in Parliament this session to restore them to their original position, and they were determined to keep on fighting until they got their rights. Other members of the/deputation also spoke The Premier said he thoroughly agreed wish the opinion that a hardship bad been inflicted on oountry clubs pa quite a number of instances and he thought it right that country clubs should take steps to have their grievances remedied-; No attempt would be made by Go? varnment to regard the Bill to bo introduced from a party point of view. Every member of Government, and he believed every member cf the House, wosald be free to do exactly what ho liked in regard So it, and he was glad the deputation had not asked Government to introduce legislation from a private member’s Bill, it wonid be possible to get an idea as 6o the attitude taken up by Parliament and Government is in favour of promoting genuine sport. The Bill would get a square deal.
