Waits, reported Daring the month the roads have suffered severely through continuous wet weather, and the Koadmen have been kept busy clearing slips throughout the County. Extra men have had to be put on to open oatse reads which were totally blocked * The Upper Kawhatau is in a very bad state and has been blocked for wheel traffic most of the mouth. There have b : ea several large slips on Lower Kawhatan Road, though the cliff portion has been singularly free from slips The side roads in Hantapa Biding were all more or less blocked, but the roadman have managed to opsn“them any great delay. There have been several large slips on Msngawhara-riki-Oliil road, ‘ In Ranl'gwahfa Biding slips have bs. :u plentiful, but traffic has art been blocked On Pelts Road two places have slipped away oa the outside and the road will have to be widened as it is at present unsafe Rangit-kei Road in Pakihikara Riding was blocked for nearly two days. Mangaplpi Road is also ia a bad stats, having slipped away in several places. The big slip at Fakihikarn is getting very dangerous for tr fflo and the whole rbaci has gone down. It would be advisable I think to ease the ap proaobes on either Bide as nothing can bs dene to the slip itself to prevent i't moving The slips on either side of Eswitea stream at Pe«p o’Day have been moving freely, causing a lot of extra work The main road from Cheltenham to Kiniboitoa has cut ap very badly, and I have hail to put on the County teams to cart more melal for patching and filling hi ruts. The metal put cut in the maintenance contract has been driven in, aid it Is difficult now to locate where it was spread' I , anticipate that about 130 yards will b i - required to repair this exceptional damage. I have had the Hay ne’e Line point removed and metal has beeng used on the road. The ford »fe the lower end of Coulter’s Lina “was in> very bad state, and when unable to care on She P£aiff Read, tbs teams repaired nod metalled same. Metal is also being put on Coulter’s Line in spare time, so that, this road when finished should not requite attention for some time The pit is also being thoroeghly stripped for nest year’s maintenance. During the month I have eent notices to earners in the County giving them notice that the roads would be closed to heavy traffic as from the Ist met. I beg to ask that my action be confirmed. Directly after the last meeting I forwarded to Wellington application for Government grants. The work of replacing the old culverts on Maugapapa and Pakfbikara roads Is in progress. The state of contracts Is as follows: — No. 206 - Work has been completed with the exception of a small amount of metal on she Main Road at Raagiwahla which could not be put out; owing to the pit being unworkable. f

No. 212, —The contractor has oat the tunnel through and has got the concrete lining almost finiEhed. I inspected the work and found it ratiefactory and have given my ocasent for the water to be tamed ln‘o the tunnel The lilting will be proceeded with at once and by the next meeting the work should be almost completed. The work at Fifeton’s Ford has been delayed owing to the teams being at work on the Main Bead, but a start is to be made this coming week I have had posts split to erect a fence at Mangaweka bridge and work will be proceeded with as scon as tbe roadman can be spared. Timber is under order for the redecking of the following bridges Kivvitea Stream and Hayne’s Greek on Cheltenham Cross Scad, Boson and Stony Creeks on Mangawhata-riki-Road and creek on Hair’s Bead, It was resovled— That Engineer metal approach to

Post Office at Cheltenham, half cost being borne by Messrs Bedstone and Eerslake, cost not to exceed 80s, and that Clerk ask Oroua County Connoil to pay two-thirds of ;this Connoil’s share. That the clerk be voted £l2 as a bonus for extra services. .That pound boards throughout the County be repaired sndrpaintad as required. •; That £49 19s rant ccllebted respecting reserve at Apiti bridge be transferred from' general account to Eimbolton Riding account as per resolution 'of Council, dated April loth, 1905. That repairing of Teparapara road be dona as soon as possible. That this Conncil strongly urges npon Government the necessity of erecting Poarangaki stream bridge, and that a copy of this resolution together with full particulars of work be forwarded to Mr D. H. Qnthrie, M P.

That Mr E. Short be Informed that Council cannot entertain his application for a refund of monies expended by bim m widening Fororanigl road. That Engineer’s action in closing all roads throngbont County lor heavy traffic, be endorsed. That Mr Bruce be paid £6 6s for royalty on metal taken out of hie pit at Peep-o’-Day.
