ATTACK ON THE K AISER.

Berlin, May 22. The Imperial Chancellor to-day made another defence of the|Kaiser’s threat to smash the Constitution of Alsace-Lorraine and incorporate it with Prussia. It was the last day of the session, and the Socialists again took the opportunity of making an attack on the Emperor. Herr Ledehonr made a speech of unparalleled violence, stating that if an English King had said what the Kaiser did the nation would have either smashed bis throne or confined him in some silent Balmoral Castle, as the Turks did Abdul Hamid. The comparison between tbe Kaiser and tbe fallen Sultan aroused cries of indignation, and President Kaempf called the speaker to order. Herr Ledabour, however, continued bis speech unmoved, ‘'l hope,” he declared, ‘‘that the Germans may soon have as strong a sense of national honour as Englishmen.” ‘ Herr Schultz, of the Conservative party, followed with a slashing exposure of the methods of Socialism, which he said were intended merely. to*disoredit the person of the Kaiser. A dignified reply to tbe debate was made by tbe Chancellor. ”Ycn say I had some difficulty; in defending the Kaiser’s words,” ho declared. “I have never had the slightest difficulty in defending mv master, and all Germany backs me when I defeud him against tbe attacks of the Socialists,” he continued, amid cheers, “Germany will not have the Socialist yoke, and.the people will give the Socialists their reply to their constant attacks on the Kaiser and the empire ” Enthusiastic cheers greeted the Chancellor’s declaration from all parties except tbe Socialists; who laughed scornfully.
