A story of the attempted assassination of • President Taft has been spread broadcast throughout the United States. An infernal machine is reported to have beeg need. A private secretary opened the package in the nick of time, escaping with slight burns after extinguishing the fuse. The White House officials deny that there Is any truth in the story.
