The difficulty was overcome by the substitution of unionist clerks. It is significant request was 'recently made to shipping companies and she Stevedores’ Association by the Clerks’ Union for a conference to discuss wages and conditions. It was stated that if no conference in the meantime was granted, a mass meeting on Sunday would consider the. situation. The clerks claim to have the backing of the Waterfront Unions.
