BRITISH BANKERS’ DINNER.
PROSPERITY AND TRADE SOUND. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright London, July 13. Mr Lloyd George, speaking at the Bankers’ dinner at the Mansion House, said the international situation nothing to create Prosperity and trade were sound, and likely to . endure. The injury anticipated through the coal strike had not been realised, and he did not‘anticipate further overpowering labour troubles. Mr Alfred Cole, Governor of the Bank of England, said that in the last twelve months there had been great industrial and financial nnrest, and the feeling of insecurity in Home investments continued encouraging investments abroad. Taxation bad severely hit breweries and land and consols,were the lowest during the present generation. The situation demanded the most serious attention, for what wonld be tna position of the Government if they wanted to, borrow oma large scale? He attributed the forcing down of gilt-edged securities largely to the death duties', totalling 129 millions in six years.
