INQUEST AT UPPER TUTAENUI
An inquest was held on Sunday by Mr J. J. McDonald, coroner, with regard to the death of William Ebden, farmer of Upper Tufcaenui, who was found dead io a paddock on Saturday night, having apparently fallen from his cart. Evidence was given by Dr. Crawford to the effect that ha was called out about 7 o’clock on Saturday evening, and found the body of deceased lying in a paddock fully clothed. There was a large bruise above the temple, and the body was cold, death having evidently occurred some honrs before. George Ebden, brother of deceased, said that he left him milking at 7.45 a.m., and went to Pattie’s to cut chaff. On coming home iu the evening he found the cart and horse at the back door, and saw the body lying in the paddock. He recognised at once that his brother was dead and sent for a doctor. Deceased had been in the habit of standing up when driving, and bad fallen out of the cart once before when going to the factory. The horse was a quiet one, and had been driven to the factory for three ‘years. Deceased was not insured, ‘ , Evidence was also given oy Alfred Shurstron, who returned to the bouse wRh George Ebden, confirming his evidence, and by Frank Giles, a boy of 12, who had gone to the factory with deceased in the morning. , . A verdict was returned that deceased bad broken bis neck by falling from his dray.
