DEATH OF DR. MONCKTON.

We regret to record the death of Dr. Monokfeon which took place at his residence "The Camp,” FeildSng, 'at about 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon. He was In Felldlng at 12 o’clock and went home for dinner, his unexpected death taking place a few hours later. Dr. Monokton, who was a brother of Sir J. Braddiok Monokton, F.S.A., eto., comes of-a very ancient line. He was educated at Corpus Christ Hall, Maidstone, and medically at London Hospital, receiving his diploma about 1855. He was a naval medical dresser 7in 1854, and was present subseqnently at the bombardment of Sveaborg in the Baltlo on board H.M.S. Hastings. He came to New Zealand in 1858 and settled in Southland, where be resided for 1 over twenty years, He was » member of Southland Provincial Council in Invercargill. He took a lease of Auckland Islands about 900 miles south of New Zealand, but was not successful. While in Invercargill he was appointed resident! surgeon of the hospital and also of Wallace Hospital. He then removed to the West Coast, and was snrgeon'io Reefton, Ross and Kumara Hospitals. Since residing in Feilding he has been honorary consulting surgeon to Palmerston Hospital. He has been a J.P. for nearly 20 years and for a long time of coroner. He has contributed valuable tberapenfcio Information through medical papers and is known as a facile writer upon general subjects. He ie also the Inventor of the accident bedstead, which received at Wellington Exhibition in 1885.
