CHELTENHAM-KIWITEA SPORTS.

Tbs sixteenth annual gathering waa hold on Mr J, Brace’s grounds on New Year Day, and the nromoters are to be congratulated upon their successful efforts in providing the publiowitii an enjoyable day’s oating. The variety of events on the programme was responsible for a large attendance, the gate receipts amounting to the respectable total of £4B 15s ful. Every consideration for the comfort and convenience of visitors and competitors was shown by the committee, and nothing unpleasant haopeued to mar the day’s outing. The fields in the pedestrian and cycling events were small, and seem to indicate that this branch of sport is declining; on the other hand the equestrian events drew large entries and provided attractive sport to the public. Close finishes were the order of the day, proving that the Oiub’s hand mapper, Mr J. Oolliugwood, has an intimate knowledge of performers’ capabilities. The unfailing courtesy oi the hou. secretary., Mr J. S. 'Mills, and his assistant, Mr O. E. Johnston, is well known, a,nd their successful efforts in keeping the events going briskly proved the wiedom of their appointment. A brass band, under the baton of Mr S.
