NORTH RANGITIKBI RIFLE ASSOCIATION. FIFTH ANNUAL MEETING. Patron, R. Cobb,® Esq. ; President, M. Tansey, Esq. ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs R. T. Batley, F. F. Hockly, ■ W. A. Officer, O. F. Bonnar, D. Tba first day’s shooting of the fifth annnal meeting of above Association ■was held at the Pouwhakarna Range, Mangaweka, on Good Friday. The growing popularity of „the meeting Was shown by the presence of competitors from Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Wanganui, Hutt and Palmerston districts in addition to well known shots from Pukeokahu, Marton, Sandon-Ohakea, Cheltenham, Kimbolton, Raurimu, Chora and the local men. A light steady wind was a little against good shooting, no possibles being made, but there were several all buts. A notable feature of the meeting was the excellent management on the part of the local executive. Each officer carried out his apportioned work in _a manner that gave every satisfaction. The committee responsible for this happy state of affairs were Captain Collins, Humphrey, Fergusson and Messrs Jaggard, Small and Grenside. The energetic Secretary (Dr. R. B. Turnbull) worked hard for success and proved an efficient and courteous official. As showing the businesslike methods in which the meeting was conducted, it may be mentioned that all prize money was paid out promptly after each match., Colonel Sommerville, of Wanganui, acted as range officer with great credit to himself. TEAMS MATCH. Open to teams of five men [from any affiliated Olub or Corps. Scores made off the rifle in first three matches to count, Mr Tansey’s Shield, valued at £ls 15s and £3, was won by the Opaki Rifle Olub, with a score of 448; second prize £2 won by Pukeokahu, 432; Mangaweka, 3rd, 430; Kimbolton, 4th, 405; Opaki, No. 2, sth, 371. The Silver Oup Match, valued, at £6 6s, presented by Mr G F. Bonnor, was won by Mr W. Oldfield, Marton, with a score of 99 off the gnn and one of a handicap; J. A. Daley, 2nd, with 98; and W. Loveday, 3rd, with 97.
