FEILDING FIRE BOARD

The quarterly meeting was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs F. Pirani (chairman), O. E. Ewen, J. J. Mallard, R. M. Simpson, W. J. B. Trewin, W. A. L. Bailey. Leave of absence was given to H. Tolly. CORRESPONDENCE. From A. Williamson, quoting ' prices for uniforms, 29s 6d for coats, 19s for trousers.—Accepted. From New Zealand Insurance Co., notifying increase of premium on account of the passing of the Worker’s Compensation Act, 1908, and offering to; insure the members of the Brigade whilst working at fires or at practice at I,os per year ner man. Tills ygonld entitle each fireman to £2 per week during 22 weeks in case of total disablement. —It was decided cili-the motion of Mr Trewin, seconded;; by the chairman, that provided the conditions (not explained) are* satisfactory the insnr. ance be effected. From Secretary of Fire Brigade, thanking the Board for donation of £5 towards expenses of delegate to the U.F.B.A. Conference, and the £2 10s annual subscription to that body. Also recommending the fol lowing as active members : D. Prior, S. Marston, A. Aplin and Walter Fisher as messenger.—Elected. _ From the Dunedin Fire Board, forwarding Copy of resolution passed by that Board approving of the view taken by Inspector Hugo that a coroner’s inquest should be held in connection ■' with every fire.—The question arose in the Board meeting ( as to who would be required to pay the costs. There being no certain information on that point the consideration of the matter was held over. On the suggestion of Mr Simpson, it was decided to request the Borough Oouncil. that on the appointment of a turncock he should be under the onSers of the''■Superintendent in case of a fire.^ , Among the accounts passed for payment was £8 for hire of horse during months. It was stated that the stablekeeper was not satisfied with the present arrangement.—lt was suggested by thp chairman that the Board should arrange for use of a horse at night only, and revert to the old arrangement, to pay 5s to the firstjone brought a horse to drag the gear td a fire during the day.— The matter was left to the chairman to arrange. . In reply to questions .from the Superintendent, the latter was in-, formed that by virtue of his appointment he was also Fire Inspector. Also that on the bell giving an alarm the time of the members would be paid for up to the time of ascertaining the scene of the fire, but if it proved to be outside the boundary of the Borough the Board would make no payment for time in combatting such fire. . It was decided unanimously to. renew the engagement of the Superintendent. and Deputy-Superinten-dent for three months from .the Ist of April next.
