HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. Wellington, March 29. Poliowing is the cablegram from the Higli Commissioner, dated March 27th:— The mutton market remains depressed and has declined further. Canterbury mutton, which is in small supply, is quoted at 3££d, North Island, in large supply, is 2%d. River Plate mutton in large supply is being strongly pushed for sale at 2>£d per lb. The supply exceeds demand and stocks are accumulating at present in store. The lamb market is weak and inactive with very little prospect of improvement for some time. Stocks on hand are heavy and prices have declined. Current quotations : Canterbury lamb 4%d, other than Canterbury Australian B%d, River Plate 4%d. The beef market is weak owing to poor demand. Supplies from River Plate are heavy. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 3d, forequarters at 2^d. The butter market is rather unsettled. Buyers are holding back excepting prices to go lower and the market is lifeless. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 103 s, Australian 101 s, Argentine 102 s, Danish ,115 s, Siberian 101 s. The Cheese market is firm there is more demand especially for coloured makes which are quoted at 645. White makes are quoted at 61s. ; The hemp market is very depressed on account of large shipments from Manila. Current quotations Good fair grade on spot £23, fair grade on spot £2l, fair current Manila on spot £23. April-June shipments, good fair grade £22 10s, fair grade £2O 10s, fair current Manila £2O 10s. Last week’s Manila output amounted to 25,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. There are light stocks on hand. Bright clean 171 b seed is quoted at 80s. , . New Zealand long berried whea/i on spot ex granary per quarter eft 496 lbs, 39s 6d short 37s 6d, prices nominal. The market is firmer. For New Zealand short sparrowbill oats ex granary per quarter of 3841bs 245, Danish oats ex granary per quarter of 3201ba 17s. There, is good demand for all descriptions of New Zeland . beans f.a.q. (did crop) per 5041bs at 345. The market is firm with more enquiry. Patridge peas per 5041bs 42s 6d. Market firm with hardenng tendency.
