FASHIONABLE LADY'S BETS.
Some remarkable disclosures were made in the Bankruptcy Court, in the sitting for the public examination of Mrs Qraoe Adele Ansell, a widow, described as late of Westbonxne ‘Mansions, Hyde Park, Accounts had been filed showing liabilities £38,753, of which £11,883 was returned as unsecured, and available assets £573. It appeared that the debtor had been in receipt of an annuity of £2OOO under the will of her husband, who died in October, 1005, and of a net income of £llsO derived from invested funds comprised in her marriage settlement. She attributed her present position chiefly to her household and personal expenses, estimated at about £39,000 ginoe 1905, having exceeded her income. In August, 1904, she purchased a 30-years’ lease of the premises, 36, Hertford-street, and stables in Pitt’s Head-mews, Mayfair, for £6650, which was partly raised on mortgage, and her present deficiency was further accounted for by depreciation (returned‘at £4013) in the value of ' the property and furniture. '"ln answer to Mr W. P. Bowyer, official receiver, the debtor said that she had betted a little on > horse-racing, but had not lost any ; substantial amount. Her furniture and effects, valued at £2500, were covered by a bill of sale given in Iso member, 1908,
