ADVENTURES OF AN HEIRESS.

A tangled international romance associated with tre name of Miss Helen Maloney, the daughter of the millionaire oil magnate, who is also a Papal marquis, ended a few weeks ago, to the intense surprise of her friends and of the public, by the remarriage of the beautiful young heiress to Mr Arthur Herbert Osborne, a New York stock broker. The elopement of Miss Maloney with Mr S. Clarkson, a young Englishman, roused great interest in the two continents, for after the disappearance of Miss Maloney it was'dis - covexed that she had contracted a marriage “for a joke” in 1905 with a youthful college friend, Mr Osborne, in the course of a casual afternoon trip in a motor oar. The heiress didnot regard this ‘‘freak marxiage” as binding, and was aghast when she was informed that it was perfectly valid, and that she was unable to wed Mr Ularkson. The lady’s father spared no money in tracing the eloping* 'couple,, and finally learned that his daughter was alone in Paris. She returned to America, bat notwithstanding the immense influence of her father the Roman iCatholio Oh arch refused to nnllify her marriage with Mr Osborne. Some'months ago, however, on the ground that both parties gave false names to the officiating magistrate, the civil authorities pronounced the marriage null and void. The latest ceremony, which Mr Maloney declares to have been solemnised with the full sanction of the Church, took place at Springlake, New Jersey, only relatives being present. Miss Maloney’s history may be tabulated as follows: December, 1905, “mock marriage” with Mr Osborne; October, 1907, elopement with Mr Clarkson; November 1907, return home, “mock marriage” found to be binding; May, 1908, divorced from Mr Osborne ; January, 1909, second marriage to Mr Osborne.
