MARION ATHLETIC CLUB’S CONCERT.

The programme was a good one and quite up to the standard of those given in previous years. The attendance was very satisfactory. Every- number was much appreciated. The first part opened with an overture “The Trumpeter of the Fort” by Orozier’s Sesette, and their very fine playing further demonstrated what a finished band of mnsioians Mr Orozier’s has got together. Marton Band, under Bandmaster A F. Sharpe, scored a decided success in their descriptive selection “A Motor Ride.” This was one of the Band’s best efforts. Mr Peter A. Eadie, who is on a visit to Martou, was a great success in his recitations, and created hearty laughter whenever be appeared. He gave a monologue “Mike O’Royle’s Faith” and on a recall gave “She was a Rum ’Un” which was equally humorous. Later in the evening his appearance was again the signal for much applause, and he was recalled after “Casey’s Ride on aßuckboard” and then gave “The Dying Man’s Last Wish.” Once more the singing of Mr Sherrifl gained warm appreciation and he was in fine voice in “Love Me and the World is Mine.” Responding to a recall he sang “The March of the Cameron Men.” One of the best appreciated items of the evening was a'dnet (a) “To My Green Home,” (b) “Larboard Watch” by Messrs Sheriff and W. L. Little. An oboe solo by Mr L. Jones was a most acceptable item. This difficult instrument is one which is not often heard and Mr Jones proved to be a very fine player,, and in his selection “Musette” fully demonstraed his ability, Mr R. H. Coker’s character songs were conspicuous items and were so successful that the audience reappearance. An Irian Jig by four little girls— Misses Spindeler, Blair, Linton and Campbell-and a Sailor’s Hornpipe by the two little Misses Oliver and Elair were neatly executed. The entertainment concluded with the amusing farce “A Night in the Area,” in which the characters were Pitcher, Mr R. H. Coker; Tosser, Mr J. A. Pawson; Walker Chalks, Mr W. J. Mogridge: Penelope, Miss Mogridge; Mrs Orooker, Miss R. Bishop. Both ladies and gentlemen proved conclusively that they possess good histrionic ability. The comedy as presented by them left no doubt in the minds of the audience as to the humour and comic situations in which this amusing little sketch auounds. Mr Coker may,ba complimented on the success achieved, as it was principally through in's efforts • that the performance was so successful, The accompaniments were ably played by Mr Bert (Jrozier.
