The weather was anything bnt favourable yesterday morning for the Marten Sports. A steady rain sec In at an early hour and continued till about 11 o’clock, and the prospects of holding the Sports were not bright. It had been suggested by many to postpone the gathering. The committee met ami resolved to hold the Sports, a decision which afterwards proved to be correct, as the afternoon was beautifully fine. The attendance was most satisfactory and the Sports were in every way successful. Competitors from all parts of the Dorainion.were present iu strong force. Both the running and cycle tracks were in good order, and all other appointments were in keeping. The energetic committee had worked hard and succeeded admirably in providing an excellent day’s sport. The man to whom most praise is dne for this pleasant gathering is the hen. secretary, Mr A. Way, whose courteous manner and business like methods won the admiration of all with whom became iu contact. The Club which has been particularly noted for the punctuality with which the events ware got off, fully upheld its reputation yesterday wnen everything went off “without a hitch.” The clcco and exciting finishes in the foot and cycle events proved that Messrs A. Way, O. E. Gibbons and H. H. Hunt had correctly gauged the abilities of the competitors. Mr W. L. Little worked energetically as supervisor, and the, judges in the horse events, Messrs J Coombe and T, McKenzie, discharged their duties in a most satisfactory manner. The result board stewards, Messrs T. Latham and A. D. N. Train, also deserve praise lor the quickness with which they announced results. Mr D, Henderson, the man with the pistol, proved an efficient starter, and Mr A. Hunt, as timekepeer, was very accurate. Mr M. Marr as supervisor of the horse events was warmly congratulated by the judges on the excellent manner in which he sent all horses out on the field.
