United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. . Sydney, March 17. A big crowd farewelled the local contingent of the Australian Eleven, on their departure for England.

WANGANUI v. RANGITIKEI.

This annual match was played at Wanganui yesterday, but owing to rain the start was delayed till 11.15 a.m. The Rangitikei captain won the toss and decided to bat. The wicket was a little wet at the start, but wore well all through. The scores of Cook, who gave one or two chances, and Shaoklook, who played an excellent innings, were features of the match. Ross also played well. The fielding of the Wanganui team was not as good as with their practice it should have been. The bowling with the exception of that of Sim, was somewhat weak. The Rangitikei hatting, considering the want of practice of the Martoo contingent, was very creditable. When the Wanganui men went ‘in despite their strong batting side they were unable to make much of a stand against the bowling of Shactlocfc and Mackay. The fielding of the Rangitikei men, despite the aforesaid lack of practice, was fairly good. The home team having made only 72, bad to follow on, and owing to the knowledge of the bowlers that the match was already won, Wanganui succeeded in knocking up 88 for the loss of 4 wickets. The visiting team were handsomely entertained by the Wanganui men,- and both sides had a very enjoyable match. It is seldom ’that umpires get any thanks for the performance of their arduous duties, but in this case both sides were much indebted to Messrs Henderson and Holland. Following are the scores:—
