The Laud Judges’ Court at Dublin lias ordered Giuuell, who did not appear, to be arrested and imprisoned for six months foi contempt of Court in connection with a speech lie made at Kilskyre. Mr Justice Ross, who decided that the speech was a crime, wished it to be understood clearly that the prosecution had not been undertaken at tire instance of the Irish Government. The cat-tle-driving movement had demoralised people to an extent unequalled within his memory. Wrongdoers laughed at the authorities’ futile efforts, and the King’s subjects no longer had confidence in the efficacj’ of the law in the protection of property and liberty. In the present case, the defendant had dared to turn the swollen tide of lawlessness and violence upon an estate that was under the Court’s immediate protection.
