WELLINGTON-MANAWATU RAILWAY.
In the Public Works Statement delivered iu the House of Representatives last evening the Govern, meut' : , ;iolicv with regard to the Manawat-t Railway is thus disclosed:—"As the Main Trunk is expected to be completed by the end of next year it is c'lesirablo that the question of the purchase of the Wcl-lington-Manawatu Railway should again receive attention as, if it is decided to purchase in terms of" The Railways Construction and Land Act, 1 881." it will be necessary to give twelve months' notice to the the company, such notice should therefore bo given at an early date - if it is to mature before the Mam Trunk is finished. Having given the matter careful consideration, the Government has decided to at once give notice to the company of its intention to take over the railway in twel",.; months' time."
