High Commissioner’s Report

Press Association.—Copyright. WELLINGTON, August 5. The" Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 3rd :

The mutton market is slightly weaker, with less demand, and supply meets demand. Canterbury mutton North Island 3ygd,

owes 3d. Lamb is in active demand at full prices. Canterbury brands 5%d, other than Canterbury oj^d. The beef market is steady with very good demand for hindquarters. Supplies of American chilled beef are ikely to increase. Hindquarters B%d, fores 2% c1. ' The butter market is firm for best quality only of which the supply falls shoro of the demand. There is a weak market for second class quality. Choicest New Zealand 101 s, Danish 118 s, Siberian 955, Canadian supplies are in sight. Irish 104 s. The cheese market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. New Zealand white cheese 60s, coloured, scarce, 61s, Canadian white 555, coloured 565.

The hemp market is steady and fair business is doing. Good fair Wellington on spot £3-1 10s, fair grande on spot £3O, fair current Manila on spot £35 10s, _ JnlySeptembor shipments, good fair Wellington £3-1, fair grade £3O. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers not keen to do business in this seed. Bright clean New Zealand 3Ss on spot for 171bs a bushel. Tho wool market is a shade weaker.
