THE RAID ON EMPLOYERS.

Per Press Association. Chkietci.ukch, July 16. Tho Arbitration Court opened in Christchurch to-day, when a number of 'enforcement cases were hoard. Tho-Christchurch Gas Company was convicted of failing to pay men weekly, but no penalty was imposed and no order made for costs._ If. Beverlcv was fined 51, T. F. Fisher £3, and" T. Taylor £3 for paying carpenters less than.the minimum wage. J. Mclntosh and Frederick Wise wore, fined 10s for accepting less than the minimum. J. Knight and tho Christchurch Meat Company were fined £.3 each for employing butchers after hours. The men were convicted for working after hours, but no flue was imposed. A. W. Buxton was lined £5, Archibald Bros. £5 and A. J. White. £3 for failing to indenture apprentices. G. Barrell, undertaker, was convicted and ordered _ to pay costs on a charge of employing uou-nuionists while unionists wore out of employment. G, W. J. Parsons, monumental mason, was fined £5 for paying four men less, than the award wages. Tho men* themselves were fined 10s each for accepting less. O. W. Harris, coachbuildor, was fined £3 for failing to pay a youth the minimum wage, and was convicted only on a charge of employing more than one youth in each department as helpers.. W T . Hayward and Co., livery stable proprietors, admitted, failing to give employees alternate .- Sundays off. They explained that an agreement had been made, with the cognisance of the Union, whereby tho men would get every third Sunday off. The Court convicted defendants, but imposed no penalty on tho ground that the Union had been a party to the breach.
