HOCKEY.

By “Bully.”

Last Wednesday tho men’s ground being in such a wet state the ladies kindly consented to the men playing with them on the Park, and a scratch game eventuated. Owing to the heavy rains the ground was rather sloppy, and several ladies came to grief. One could not help feeling sorry for them, but admired their pluck in turning out in full muster. They seem very keen on the game. Some excellent play was shown by the ladies, and two or three shone out prominently. They have some very good hitters, and some showed great fleetuess of foot. With a little more practice and also learning to keep their places, together with combination, they should be able to put a very strong team in the field ; then perhaps the men will send in a challenge.

It is pity the grounds are so wet here, as hockey is a game that recmiros a dry ground. " I hear Taihapc has sent a challenge, but the date has not definitely been fixed.

There will be a scratch game on Saturday at 3 p.m., should the weather bo favourable, when sides will bo picked on the ground.
