“TOO MUCH MOTHER-IN-LAW.”

Mrs Edward Kelly, the mother of Mrs Frank J. Gould, of New Fork, believing that she is grossly wronged by an accusation attributed to Mr Gould “that there is too much mother-in-law in his household,” has told a story of the matrimonial troubles of her daughter to a newspaper iuteriewer. With tears in her eyes aud a chok|mg voice, Mrs Kelly assured him that, as far as she was concerned, it was merely a case of the loving mother trying to save the daughter from a broken heart. Mr Gould, she explained, contracted the habit of “filling my daughter’s home with his friends. 1 won’t say what kind of friends. Some day it will all come out. The friends order my daughter’s servants about aud do whatever they please, aud Mr Gould simply ignores his wife’s protests.” The indignant mother-in-law declares that she opposed the marriage from the very beginning, but has spared no pains to preserve family peace. Unfortunately, Mrs Frank J. Gould, when shown her mother’s remarks, vigorously observed, “perfect rot. ’ ’ Whatever trouble existed, she added, was largely duo to her mother’s quick temper. “Mr Gould aud myself settled any little differences without tiie slightest bitterness. We are in absolute accord as to the education of our children aud other matters”

According to the World, Mrs Kelly visited Mr Gould, aud demanded a public retraction of the “too much mother-in-law” statement which appeared in Town Topics. Mr Gouldj instead of complying, called her a foolisli old woman. This so angered Mrs Kelly that she ordered her daughter immediately to quit the house, aud Mrs Gould, refusing to obey, Mrs Kelly left, vowing vengeance. Now Mr Gould declines to issue an official denial of a statement that he has forbidden his mother-in-law to enter his home
