EDUCATION BOARD.

A special meeting of the above Board was hold on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs Piraui (chairniaii), Carson, Purnell, [Smith, Dixon, Fraser, Guthrie, and Spnrdle. The following [appointments were dealt with in committee :—Ohiugaiti: Miss Marten, who had been selected, declined the appointment, and Miss Stauscll was asked to act temporarily. Clydesdale: T. J. McCann’s appointment confirmed. Sanson: Miss

V. Bailey’s appointment conrfimed. Colyton: Miss O’Brien’s resignation accepted. Leave of absence was granted to A. D. Reed, Campbell street, R. J. Williamson, and F. E. S. Rockel. Letters were received from the Department notifying grant of £233 for renewal of Pariroa residence; re cleaning schools, notifying that Dr, Mason approves of Timaru method. From tho Foildiug Committee re changes in staff.—Resolved that the Committee be informed that the

Board regrets that by an oversight tho Committee was not consulted re the removal of tho assistant special assistant.

From the Halcombe Committee re repairs.—Committee authorised to dp tho work and charge tho Board. From Spur Road Committee, re papering residence.—Resolved to reply that tho Board does not pay for work not authorised, but in view of special circumstances in this case the amount” would be paid. From Dmiitoi Committee re increased grant for fencing.—Additional amount granted. Foxfcon.—From teacher re residence.—Mr Fraser to interview architect and report to Building Committee. From Committee re cesspit.—Mr Fraser to -report -to Building Committee. Kiwitea.— From Committee re leak.—Empowered to get repairs attended to. - . ■ ■

Raotihi.—From H, Edwards, re fence.—Mr Edwards authorised to do the work ;i( price quoted, Tor race End, —From, Committee, protesting against closing school on Empire Day.—Resolved to reply that Board lias decided that school shall not again bo closed on Empire Day. Rata.—From Committee, agreeing to provide labour for fending.—Resolved tliai- adjoining owner be notified.
