HOCKEY.

l Notes by “Bully.” i An exciting match was played last 1 Saturday between the Smokers and Non-smokers of the Marton Hockey Club, resulting in a win for the latter by two goals to nil. There was not much to choose between the two teams, except that the non-smokers’ forwards wore just a trifle superior to the smokers’. It was only in the second spell that the non-smokers were blowing the ’ smokers’ matches out, and they had ’ a hard task before them, as the smokers re-lit their pipes time after time and got on some splendid I rushes, but their tobacco was getting damp, and it took them some time ’ to get smoke up again. The nou--3 smokers played with groat coolness, 5 and their forwards were in better 3 condition, needless to say, .still they did not have it all their owii way. The smokers lacked combination, giving way to loose rushes and puffs on their own instead of passing the pipe round, and so distributing their tobacco among themselves and giving eacla player his share of work. For. the winners Outfield, Parkiu- , son, Fulton and Signall played well, ’ and for the losers D. Smith, Oollius, ’ Bryce and Swinburne. -A return match will be played in s the, near future, when we hope the , tables will be turned. „ It is mooted that a team from b Upper Tutaenui may challenge the Marton Club. The Club is very pleased, and hope to knock their uppers about. The following will represent the Banks and Law against the rest of the Club on Wednesday at 8.80: Swinburne (captain), Outfield, Oowper, Orwin, Norton; Fulton, Brodrick, Cox, Smith, Broad, Buster Broad, Collins and Madson. Best of e Club: Fell (captain), Parkinson, r Nicol, Fulton, Wilson, Scrimgeour, e’ Carr, McKenzie, Mogridgc, Signall, e Bryce.
